The most prominent topics of discussion are the Smithsonian Institution, the establishment of Colorado as a territory, and Humboldt's work. Among the prominent correspondents are Robert Hare, Louis Aggasiz, and Alexander Dallas Bache. Two letters are addressed to Mrs. Henry.
